چکیده

Data envelopment analysis (DEA), originally developed to study production efficiency of micro-level organizations, has recently been used to construct a production-frontier approach to the analysis of international macroeconomic growth and convergence patterns. DEA methods are used to construct the convex production frontier and this construction is then employed to decompose productivity growth into components attributable to technological change (shift of the production frontier), efficiency change (movements toward or away from the frontier), physical capital deepening, and human capital accumulation. Using this decomposition, we provide new findings on the evolution of the world productivity distribution, especially the shift from uni-modality to bimodality over the 1965−2007 period.

Did the Manufacturing Sector Contribute to Aggregate Convergence? How About Services and Structural Change?

This paper quantifies the contributions of sectoral productivity growth and structural change to aggregate productivity convergence. Existing evidence is inconclusive because it focuses on convergence within sector and its methodology depends sensitively on the conversion factor used to compare sectoral productivity levels across countries. Thus, a methodology – β-decomposition – is proposed to...

Convergence and growth. Labour productivity dynamics in the European Union

This paper investigates labour productivity dynamics for 1263 regional economies of the European Union during 1991–2007. Despite convergence is usually found to occur conditionally to economy-wide factors, results reveal a clear process of unconditional convergence for financial and business-related market services. Such an evidence is not found for manufacturing and aggregate productivity, for...

Investigating Agricultural Productivity Growth and Convergence in Iran and Eastern African Countries

On the other hand, productivity has divergence trend, then explicit policies would be needed to prevent f...

Total Factor Productivity Growth, Technical Change and Technical Efficiency Change in Asian Economies: Decomposition Analysis

The aim of this paper is to analyze total factor productivity (TFP) growth and its components in Asian countries applying Stochastic Frontier Analysis (SFA) to the time series data of 44 Asian countries from 2000 to 2010. Using Battese and Coelli approach, TFP is divided into technical efficiency change and technical change. TFP decomposition using SFA method for the years 1998 to 2007 indicate...
